In a letter to the Rail Delivery Group, the London Assembly Transport Committee has called for the Department for Transport to consider incorporating the Southeastern High Speed route operating from St. Pancras International and Stratford International within the Travelcard zone system.
According to London TravelWatch this could mean lower fares for passengers wanting to travel on the route from Stratford to central and west London.
This could help reduce pressure on the Central and Jubilee Lines while social distancing measures are in place and would give commuters another public transport option that is quick and affordable.
As lockdown is eased, the Committee has also written to the Rail Delivery Group with insights and questions around the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on London’s transport network and passenger and transport worker safety and demand.
Dr Alison Moore AM, Chair of the Transport Committee, said:
“As Londoners begin to return to work, extending reduced fares to those on the Southeastern High Speed route from St Pancras to Stratford is a no-brainer.”
“This route has capacity, but high ticket prices mean not everyone can afford to use it. By incorporating this line to the Travelcard and Pay As You Go system commuters would have the option to use these trains in an easy and affordable way, which will benefit everyone by easing pressure on busy Tube lines.”
