Thank you for your answer to question 1686/2007. Given that 17 London borough councils received lower scores for their leisure and culture facilities from the Audit Commission in 2006 than in 2005, whilst only 4 borough councils improved their ratings, what will you do to reverse this decline and improve the quality of London's publicly run leisure and culture facilities as part of the legacy of the 2012 Olympic Games?

  • Reference: 2008/0032
  • Question by: Jenny Jones
  • Meeting date: 30 January 2008
Has Transport for London investigated the difference in pedestrian casualties at junctions where pedestrian signals are missing, compared to junctions where pedestrian signals are provided? If so, will you provide this information? If not, will you ask Transport for London to carry out this work?

Olympic transport

  • Reference: 2008/0031
  • Question by: Jenny Jones
  • Meeting date: 30 January 2008
The Olympic Host City Contract for the 2012 Games states that `The Organising Committee of the Olympic Games shall provide a safe, reliable and efficient system of transport, free of charge, for the [Olympic family]'. The Olympic Transport Plan states that `The Host City Contract requires LOCOG to provide safe, secure and reliable road transport for all Olympic Family and Paralympic Family client groups.' How do you explain this difference and is there in fact any legal requirement to provide road transport for the Olympic Family?

Olympics and air quality

  • Reference: 2008/0030
  • Question by: Jenny Jones
  • Meeting date: 30 January 2008
The Olympic Host City Contract for the 2012 Games states that `The City, the National Olympic Committee and the Organising Committee of the Olympic Games undertake to carry out their obligations and activities under this Contract in a manner which...complies with applicable environmental legislation.' How does this relate to London's consistent breaching of minimum EU air quality standards?

What lessons have been learned from the publication of a road safety pack for schools titled: `Just a Journey'? Street lighting

  • Reference: 2008/0028
  • Question by: Jenny Jones
  • Meeting date: 30 January 2008
Given the success of the Transport for London funded pilot in Hounslow of solar and wind powered street lighting, will you undertake to implement this technology across the Transport for London Road Network and provide best practice guidance and support for boroughs to follow suit on local roads?

Traffic reduction

  • Reference: 2008/0027
  • Question by: Jenny Jones
  • Meeting date: 30 January 2008
Given that estimated traffic flows have fallen slightly in 19 out of 32 London boroughs since 2000, do you think a future Transport Strategy should make traffic reduction a key policy priority? Would a 10% reduction in London traffic by 2012 do more to reduce air pollution and climate change emissions from transport than any other single policy measure?
