PVC windows

  • Reference: 2008/0054

Many London local authorities are currently engaged in estate refurbishments involving the installation of PVC windows. Given that it takes eight times more energy to make a PVC window than a timber window, that PVC windows generate 48% more waste than timber windows, and that dangerous chemicals are emitted during the production of PVC windows, will you urge all local authorities to favour timber windows over PVC, to amend their procurement policies, and to renegotiate contracts wherever possible?

Given that the Commissioner has recognised the priority of this work as frontline policing, will you continue to support the retention of these officers?

Removal of cycles

  • Reference: 2008/0049
  • Question by: Jenny Jones
  • Meeting date: 30 January 2008
Is the Mayor aware that new legislation proposed by the London Local Authorities and Transport for London (the LLA and TfL No.2 Bill 2007) includes measures that would enable council officers to forcibly remove bicycles from locations such as railings without any warning and to charge people for their disposal? Given your opposition to previous proposals to permit the forcible removal of bikes from railings, and your desire to increase cycle use, will you ensure that cycles are excluded from the proposed legislation?
