  • Reference: 2023/3339
  • Question by: Keith Prince

In your response to question 2022/0776, you provided data that revealed that, for the period from April 2010 to January 2022, TfL buses had been involved in 262 pedal confusion incidents with 235 people injured: that’s nearly 2 pedal confusion incidents and two people injured per month. How many of these incidents required TfL to conduct a NIMI (Notification and Investigation of Major Incidents) report?

NIMI Reports and TfL Bus Drivers critically injuring pedestrians on Zebra Crossings, 1 January 2016-11 July 2023

  • Reference: 2023/3337
  • Question by: Keith Prince
  • Meeting date: 14 September 2023
Combined with the data you provided in response to question 2018/5146, the data you provided in your response to question 2023/2811 confirms that, since January 2016, more than one pedestrian per month has been critically injured by a TfL bus on a pedestrian crossing. How many of these incidents required TfL to conduct a NIMI (Notification and Investigation of Major Incidents) report?

Working Conditions Improvements as a result of Unite-led Bus Strikes at TfL Bus Operators Go-Ahead, Arriva, RATP, Metroline in 2022

  • Reference: 2023/3336
  • Question by: Keith Prince
  • Meeting date: 14 September 2023
Please can you identify any improvements to bus driver working conditions – such as toilets being made available where bus drivers previously had none, changes to fatigue-inducing work schedules or ensuring that working air conditioning is present in all in bus cabs – that resulted from the Unite the Union’s 2022 strikes at Go-Ahead, Arriva, RATP and Metroline?

Working Conditions Improvements as a result of Unite-led Bus Strikes at TfL Bus Operators Go-Ahead, Arriva, RATP, Metroline and Abellio

  • Reference: 2023/3335
  • Question by: Keith Prince
  • Meeting date: 14 September 2023
In your response to 2023/2082, you confirmed that, "The industrial action at Abellio earlier this year was primarily around pay. Transport for London is not aware of any additional specific changes to working conditions as a result of that action.” I assume you also know that Abellio workers also were striking about changes to scheduling that would reduce stress and driver fatigue. Are you concerned that Unite called off the strike without any action from Abellio on improving those – in my view -dangerous working conditions?

Vision Zero: Failure to Provide Data on Bus Company Disciplinary Procedures resulting from Safety Incidents that could cause (or have caused) Death or Serious Injury

  • Reference: 2023/3334
  • Question by: Keith Prince
  • Meeting date: 14 September 2023
Your responses to questions 2023/2808 and 2023/1321 baffle me. I have specifically asked for (a) the exact number of bus drivers who’ve been subjected to disciplinary hearings; and (b) the outcomes of these hearings for the at least 56 people who have been killed and 3823 people sent to hospital after bus safety incidents since you became Mayor in an “anonymised” or “aggregate” format from which no bus operator or KSI Incident could be identified. How is this information “highly sensitive” or capable of 'inhibiting the free exchange of information and TfL’s ability to work collaboratively to drive safety improvement’...

Vision Zero: Refusal to Publish Prevention of Future Deaths Reports issued to TfL and Contractors

  • Reference: 2023/3333
  • Question by: Keith Prince
  • Meeting date: 14 September 2023
In your response to question 2023/2112, you stated, “Transport for London wrote to you in December sharing copies of the information requested. I have asked Officers to re-send this information to you”. In question 2022/2979 I asked, “Will you commit to publishing all 'Prevention of Future Deaths Reports' issued to TfL and its contractors, complete with documentary evidence showing what actions were actually taken to satisfy the coroner’s mandated actions?” Instead of purportedly sending me this information directly, why not publish the data in response and satisfy both my queries at once?

Correct Number of Bus Workers who died from Covid-19 March 2020-August 2023

  • Reference: 2023/3332
  • Question by: Keith Prince
  • Meeting date: 14 September 2023
In your response to question 2023/2801, you provided information that 72 bus workers had died from Covid-19 and that this data reflected that “two further Covid-related deaths have subsequently been recorded since this information was last provided in June 2022”. A quick review of your response to question 2022/1629 provided data for “A breakdown of the employers of the 75 colleagues who worked on/alongside our bus services”. Accordingly, shouldn’t the correct response to question 2023/2801 be “77” and not “72” as you’ve published? How do you explain TfL seemingly “forgetting” about 5 bus workers that it has already publicly acknowledged...
