OfSTED (Supplementary) [2]

  • Question by: Graham Tope
  • Meeting date: 27 July 2000
I must say speaking in a different role as until very recently my Party's education spokesman I do have to agree with most of the comments that have been made. Can I assume therefore that you objected to the further extension of the role of OfSTED and its Chief Inspector into further education and that you did not vote for this in your other role as a Member of Parliament? While you think about that can I ask the other question which is whilst I share your views very much on the issue of racial awareness training and the shortcomings...

OfSTED (Supplementary) [1]

  • Question by: Victor Anderson
  • Meeting date: 27 July 2000
Undermining the morale of teachers is a very serious allegation to make and good morale amongst teachers is the most important asset the education system could possibly have. It's already very low in many schools working under enormous pressure. Therefore, will you set up an investigation " possibly like your Commission on Affordable Housing " to find out the facts of the situation and to give teachers an opportunity to voice their dissatisfaction with the burden of bureaucracy they currently suffer under?

Economic Development (Supplementary) [3]

  • Question by: Roger Evans
  • Meeting date: 27 July 2000
But it's unfortunate, Mr Mayor, that you were not with us for our Assembly meeting with Ford at the start of the week because they specifically stated, Ford management, that the Euro was not a reason for them closing down their operation at Dagenham, although, to be fair to you, they did state that Ford would be in favour of Britain joining the Euro, but they said specifically that it was not a factor in this case. Furthermore, the trades unions, whom we have also met on a visit to Dagenham, said they didn't consider it to be a factor...

Economic Development (Supplementary) [2]

  • Question by: John Biggs
  • Meeting date: 27 July 2000
Just briefly, I and my constituents I think are very grateful for the support that you have given in the media to the Ford issue and I just wondered if you are prepared to back that up further today by reiterating that if anything further can be done, I know that a lot of people seem to have given up the ghost, but if anything further can be done to maintain production at Dagenham that you will do that and you will be happy to work with representatives in the area to try to secure such an outcome.

Economic Development (Supplementary) [1]

  • Question by: Roger Evans
  • Meeting date: 27 July 2000
So, you are telling us that this is your impression of the situation, it's your view of why Ford did this. Now, I was at the London First speech which you gave a couple of weeks ago. You had an audience of people there who were broadly supportive of your views on the Euro. So why was it that you actually told those people that it was " or you gave the impression, certainly " that it was Ford's decision as opposed to your interpretation of Ford's decision? And why have you made such a lot about this investment in...

And that's to be commended Mayor, but how will we get to know about the progress of these intentions?

TFL Representative Workforce (Supplementary) [1]

And that's to be commended, Mayor, but how will we get to know about the progress of these intentions?

Muswell Hill (Supplementary) [1]

  • Question by: David Lammy
  • Meeting date: 27 July 2000
Despite our new office building in South London, can I invite the Mayor to explore our wonderful facilities in North London, particularly our historic building, Alexandra Palace, and explore with Haringey Council ways in which we can engage our community up there. We recently had, as you know, Bernie Grant's funeral in Alexandra Palace. Can I invite you to explore the use of that facility?

Priorities for London (Supplementary) [3]

  • Question by: Roger Evans
  • Meeting date: 27 July 2000
This is a scheme which changes by the day, we seem to have different proposals in front of us and it develops every time we discuss this. The proposal around charging is one of those and you've answered one of my questions in written form where you said originally it was going to be £5 a day, now you are suggesting £7.50 a day. Your deputy Dave Wetzel wants a charge of £50 a day. Isn't this much more about raising money and taxing motorists than about solving London's congestion problems?
