Transport 2025 (Supplementary) [6]

  • Question by: Jenny Jones
  • Meeting date: 18 November 2006
That is another thing that really annoys me. You want cycling and walking to increase their modal share. If you look at the tiny percentage of people who travel on the Tube, and on rail, in fact we should be putting thousands of millions of pounds into cycling and walking over the next few years, otherwise we are not competing with these big projects.

Thanks for that. My problem with the 2025 document is that it lacks vision. You say that it wants to build on progress and that sort of thing, but actually there is not a vision for anything to do with walking or cycling beyond 2009. Will you read, first of all, at least the summary of the response that we have put in on this document, which outlines some of the places where we could have a bit more vision?

I know that we have got a number of Centres of Vocational Excellence; certainly I know of the East London one. I am just thinking, have we have reached capacity, or will we be seeing more of these developments? This sort of development has been key in raising the understanding and awareness of young people that the construction industry is...

If the Greater London Authority (GLA) can legally implement its Living Wage policy through procurement activities, why can the ODA not do the same?

So, basically, down to a fair employment policy for the Olympics, it is not a case of a clear, cast-iron commitment, it is a case of, `Trust me, I am a politician, I will get it sorted out somehow'?
