Sustainable Olympics (Supplementary) [3]

  • Question by: Jenny Jones
  • Meeting date: 12 March 2008
You know this is not going to happen unless, I think, you are a bit tougher. For example, on renewables the Olympics will only meet existing London Plan targets and on energy they will only just be ahead of national standards on energy efficiency. So the targets are not high enough and on some things there are not any targets at all. Can I suggest somewhere where we could very usefully put some targets in which would make it much more cutting edge.

No, because you can be a bit better than previous Games.

  • Question by: Jenny Jones
  • Meeting date: 12 March 2008
Do you want to hear what they are? For example, there are no energy efficiency targets for temporary venues or temporary parts of permanent venues, so that means most of the seating does not have any sort of targets in it. I am not worried about LOCOG or the ODA delivering on targets; I am sure they will absolutely deliver on targets. What I am worried about is that the targets that they have are just not ambitious enough. Perhaps I could put this forward to you on these venues because that would make a difference?

Greening the London Economy (Supplementary) [5]

  • Question by: Nicky Gavron
  • Meeting date: 12 March 2008
I am trying to make this into a question! Wouldn't you agree that we have set aside identified sites for waste technologies, that we have a sustainable industries park and we also have a centre for manufacturing excellence and that we are looking hard at trying to ensure that we do have the space for the emerging green technologies both in transport technologies, waste technologies, energy technologies? There are so many new technologies coming along. You are absolutely right to highlight this but I do think actually that we have been very mindful of that so far in the London...

Greening the London Economy (Supplementary) [4]

  • Question by: Darren Johnson
  • Meeting date: 12 March 2008
I am very into Nicky's light bulbs; I think they are glamorous and fantastic and I am sure they look brilliant in her low energy chandeliers at her home! It is not just about jobs in energy; that is the important but if we are looking at green jobs in industry there is recycling, there is food, there is green manufacturing and we are massively lagging behind Europe in terms of our green jobs target.

Greening the London Economy (Supplementary) [3]

  • Question by: Darren Johnson
  • Meeting date: 12 March 2008
I do not think I want a job dishing out grants for you actually, Ken! It seems far too high risk. Can I just finally pick up on a point; GLA Economics has produced all sorts of useful reports and analysis on London's economy but done absolutely nothing that I have seen on green jobs and green industry?

Greening the London Economy (Supplementary) [2]

  • Question by: Darren Johnson
  • Meeting date: 12 March 2008
So we will see a London Plan revision looking at green industries then?

Greening the London Economy (Supplementary) [1]

  • Question by: Darren Johnson
  • Meeting date: 12 March 2008
Although you have mentioned various revisions still the overwhelming economic focus of the London Plan and the projected job growth is on business and financial services. I will quote Professor Sir Peter Hall who came to City Hall to speak at the conference that the Environment Committee hosted on green industry. He said there is nothing wrong with the City of London as a wealth generator but our obsession with the idea that London equals financial and business services is something that really needs to be corrected. I think it is important that we do have a revision of the...

Revenue Loss on Buses (Supplementary) [4]

  • Question by: Geoff Pope
  • Meeting date: 12 March 2008
How can you be driving it down if you do not have any figures for the last two or three years? I find that amazing.

Revenue Loss on Buses (Supplementary) [3]

  • Question by: Geoff Pope
  • Meeting date: 12 March 2008
What are you doing to drive down this because it seems like it has been drifting for many years and it means that the travelling public are very upset because they then say, "Why should I pay when I see so few other people paying?"
