Mayors oral update (Supplementary) [1]

  • Question by: John Biggs
  • Meeting date: 14 October 2009
John Biggs (AM): I guess Londoners will be concerned that you are more worried about the contents of your belly than the contents of their wallets, because another announcement which we understand you are making tomorrow is on fares, which is an important part of your Transport Strategy. The question I have is - and this has been widely trailed to the media - given that you are apparently going to do this tomorrow, and you therefore know what the fares increase will be, you have therefore already written the press statements and the briefings and the releases, why do...

Understanding Different Cultures (Supplementary) [1]

  • Question by: Richard Barnbrook
  • Meeting date: 14 October 2009
Thank you. That is good to know. I would like to work out from your analysis of the idea of Christians, or non-Muslim people, fasting during Ramadan. You mentioned the idea when you went to the mosque, I believe, in east London, care of Navin Shah's written question to you. I look forward to seeing Navin in ethics training in the next coming weeks. You actually mentioned the 600,000 Muslims here in London. Not bad when the population is roughly over nine million. I feel that, by making such comments as this, that non-Muslims should go on a fast and...

River Crossings (Supplementary) [1]

  • Question by: James Cleverly
  • Meeting date: 14 October 2009
Thank you for that, Mr Mayor. I appreciate that work is being done on this - but I wanted to take this opportunity just to remind you of the importance for many people in my constituency, particularly those who either live on or use the A2 as a main route to and from work since the enforced closure of the Blackwall Tunnel and the contraflow by the previous incumbent of your post. Many people in my constituency still find themselves very disadvantaged in the mornings, particularly, and the tailback on the A2 seems to get longer each time I look...

Step-Free Access (Supplementary) [1]

  • Question by: Gareth Bacon MP
  • Meeting date: 14 October 2009
Can I ask just a couple of follow up questions on that please, Mr Mayor? On step-free access in general, what is TfL's target for introducing step-free access and what are the key factors in determining which stations are selected for step-free access?

Air Quality (Supplementary) [1]

  • Question by: Gareth Bacon MP
  • Meeting date: 14 October 2009
Can I thank you, Mr Mayor, for adhering to your long held pledge that you were not actually abolishing phase three of the LEZ; you were postponing it in order to give those businesses who faced financial --

London Plan (Supplementary) [5]

  • Question by: Brian Coleman
  • Meeting date: 14 October 2009
You should see what is in mine; a pint of milk and that is about it! Anyway, Mr Mayor, what would your advice be to London boroughs, such as the London Borough of Barnet, who, on an all-party basis, have agreed there are no sites for the 22 travellers' pitches which your London Plan decrees? Should we concrete over some of our allotment space, for example?

London Plan (Supplementary) [4]

  • Question by: Nicky Gavron
  • Meeting date: 14 October 2009
I thought, when we had this question, that we were actually going to be thinking about the very important priorities, so I would like to slightly reframe it and ask you what you think are the three biggest challenges facing London over the next ten years?

London Plan (Supplementary) [3]

  • Question by: Tony Arbour
  • Meeting date: 14 October 2009
My constituents in south west London will be particularly pleased to see your strengthening of the Blue Ribbon strategy and the strategic views, particularly the view from King Henry's Mount in Richmond Park. However, you are not as light touch in one respect, I think, as you ought to be. That relates to the targets that you have given in the Plan for each borough to meet the number of sites that they ought to be providing for travellers. You scrapped the housing targets but you have left this target in. We do not believe - and I have raised...

London Plan (Supplementary) [2]

  • Question by: Steve O'Connell
  • Meeting date: 14 October 2009
Steve O'Connell (AM): Thank you very much, Mr Mayor. I have to say that when the author of the report poised over the section around back garden protection, he or she must have felt the weight of expectation very heavily on their shoulders. I am pleased at some of the wording around it. I have consulted a couple of senior council leaders and a couple of senior planning executive directors who are content that it does give them the powers to further protect our back gardens. However, in that context, I would perhaps urge you to lessen your temptation to...

London Plan (Supplementary) [1]

  • Question by: Jenny Jones
  • Meeting date: 14 October 2009
With the London Plan I have noticed that it has got the target for affordable housing as 20% lower than the GLA's own assessment of need. So this means that there is half the amount of social housing that is going to be built in the next ten years in London. You have just talked about the increase in population. It seems to me we are setting up problems for the future if we do not deliver the right amount of social housing.
