Question and Answer Session: Transport for London (Supplementary) [12]

  • Question by: Neil Garratt
  • Meeting date: 02 September 2021
Neil Garratt AM: Good morning, Mr Mayor. We are talking about the recovery, and one of the threats particularly hanging over outer London of that recovery is the Greater London boundary charge, which I know we have discussed before. The next phase in that project is the feasibility study. I believe you said in February [2021] in answer to a question from Assembly Member Bacon that we would be hearing back later in the year. That is quite a vague timeline. When can we expect to see the results of that feasibility study?

Question and Answer Session: Transport for London (Supplementary) [11]

  • Question by: Marina Ahmad
  • Meeting date: 02 September 2021
Marina Ahmad AM: Mr Mayor, a question for you. London generates almost a quarter of the UK’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP). Inadequate government support would compromise the UK’s economic recovery from COVID-19 as under-investment would consign Londoners to a future of crumbling infrastructure, disrupted emergency services, and travelling around through outdated stations on old and unreliable trains prone to breaking down. TfL ridership numbers in London remain lower than pre-pandemic, impacting not only on TfL’s finances, but those businesses in the centre of London. It would be a devastating impact at a time when recovery from COVID-19 is crucial for...

Question and Answer Session: Transport for London (Supplementary) [10]

  • Question by: Anne Clarke
  • Meeting date: 02 September 2021
Anne Clarke AM: Good morning, Mr Mayor, my question is for you. Heidi Alexander told the Transport Committee on 30 June [2021] that we have a Government whose stated priority is to invest in other regions and not in London. Is levelling up the rest of the UK by levelling down London good for our transport network?

Question and Answer Session: Transport for London (Supplementary) [9]

  • Question by: Caroline Russell
  • Meeting date: 02 September 2021
Caroline Russell AM: Mr Mayor, I want to focus on the challenge of Vision Zero. Up to the end of July, sadly, 34 people have died on London’s roads this year. In this last month, two deaths have stood out in the media: Dr Marta Krawiec, a 41-year-old children’s doctor, who died at Holborn as she cycled to work, and Melissa Burr, who was 32 and died walking at Victoria Bus Station. Knowing the names of people who have lost their lives on London’s roads reminds us that this is not about statistics, but people and their friends, their families...

Question and Answer Session: Transport for London (Supplementary) [8]

  • Question by: Lord Bailey of Paddington
  • Meeting date: 02 September 2021
Shaun Bailey AM: Good morning, Mr Mayor. Good morning, Commissioner. A question to the Mayor. One of the options for Londoners who cannot afford the rise in the ULEZ, the expansion, is to join car clubs, especially in outer London where cars are still quite heavily used. Are we doing enough to promote this kind of activity? Are you working on that?

Question and Answer Session: Transport for London (Supplementary) [7]

  • Question by: Leonie Cooper
  • Meeting date: 02 September 2021
Léonie Cooper AM: Good morning, Mr Mayor. We have just been talking about the central ULEZ and some of the issues relating to it. Obviously one of the things that it has done is contributed to a 44% reduction in roadside NO2 levels, which is great. However, that is not good enough, as you have repeatedly said, and many of us agree, given the air quality problems in London. Just set out for us exactly, in advance of the 21 October expansion, what the effect of that expansion is going to be on air quality within the new expanded boundary?

Question and Answer Session: Transport for London (Supplementary) [6]

  • Question by: Peter Fortune
  • Meeting date: 02 September 2021
Peter Fortune AM: Good morning, Mr Mayor. This is for you. It is sticking with the finance theme that we had there. It is relating back to that expanding ULEZ zone, which I accept has the potential to have a real impact on air quality, but also some impact on the least well-off. You will recall in June the Conservative Group here put forward a proposed solution to expand the scrappage scheme. We suggested some money that could be used to fund that as well. You said that there was no money available to do that. I was very pleased...

Question and Answer Session: Transport for London (Supplementary) [5]

  • Question by: Sakina Sheikh
  • Meeting date: 02 September 2021
Sakina Sheikh AM: Good morning, Mr Mayor. I will be addressing my question to you. My question is concerning creating financial sustainability in TfL by 2023. TfL has reduced its funding requirement for the financial year from £2.7 billion identified in the March 2021 budget down to £1.9 billion in the July revised budget. Can you explain what you have done to create this £800 million saving and whether you are still on course to becoming financially sustainable by April 2023?

Question and Answer Session: Transport for London (Supplementary) [4]

  • Question by: Caroline Pidgeon
  • Meeting date: 02 September 2021
Caroline Pidgeon MBE AM: My question is to the Mayor. I would like to ask about the recovery from the pandemic, which should include cycling. On 4 August [2021], Dr Marta Krawiec was killed cycling to work at Holborn Gyratory. There have been eight cyclists killed there since 2008; four at the junction of Southampton Row and Theobalds Road. I have seen your recent reply to Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospitals about this where you stated: “TfL has already delivered funding for short-term interim measures and will support Camden to deliver these as quickly as possible.” Can you today provide...

Fairness of Outcomes (Supplementary) [1]

  • Question by: Len Duvall OBE
  • Meeting date: 23 March 2023
Len Duvall OBE AM: I am thinking whether to end on a good moment; there is so much I could add. Nevertheless, in terms of the title, “Fairness of Outcomes”, the issues that sit around consultation and the issues around that, in some ways there is so much about fairness of outcomes here. In terms of some of the issues around taxation, you were rightly challenged around some of your taxation problems and you rightly defend why you make the choices that you do. Some of the issue around fairness of outcomes is: why do you think those in the...
