Following his pressuring London’s Mayor to stop funding animal cruelty at London Fashion Week, today Zack Polanski AM celebrated the start of Veganuary 2025 by sharing the Mayor’s formal confirmation of a new approach to his animal welfare policies. [1]

In his letter to Zack, the Mayor confirmed the GLA Group’s Central Responsible Procurement Team will work with Mayoral policy teams to more prominently consider animal welfare in the next Responsible Procurement Implementation Plan, due to be published in 2025. [2]

Building on this positive commitment, Zack Polanski will join Viva! Founder and Director Juliet Gellatley in hosting Policy, Progress & Peas on 23 January to convene leading voices in food policy, procurement and plant-based advocacy for an evening of collaborative thinking and networking. Members of the media are invited to attend, and can RSVP here. [3]

Green Party London Assembly Member Zack Polanski said:

“There is simply no excuse for funding animal cruelty, and it is long past time for City Hall to ensure its procurement chain sets the highest bar for animal safety at every step.

“I am delighted to see the Mayor is starting to listen to our calls, and has confirmed London Fashion Week will now ban exotic skins, and look forward to working closely with him on extending a similar ban to feathers.

“If you feel particularly motivated to join us, I invite anyone interested in pushing the Mayor to do more for animals to attend Politics, Progress & Peas later this month in Wood Green – let's make some change!”
