The Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police, Sir Mark Rowley, officially launched the Turnaround Plan, which details how the Met will achieve its mission of More Trust, Less Crime and High Standards.

London Assembly Police and Crime Committee has today responded to the Metropolitan Police draft Turnaround Plan.

The Committee welcomes the draft Plan, its commitments, and the action taken to begin to address the urgent change needed across the Met. However, it asks that the Met ensures the Board is open and transparent and publishes regular updates on its work.

It has written to the Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police with multiple recommendations for action, including:

  • The final Turnaround Plan outlines the specific steps the Met will take to ensure its people reflect London’s communities.
  • The Met should remove corrupt officers at pace and takes every opportunity to tell Londoners about this work.
  • The Committee would welcome further information in the final Turnaround Plan on how the Met will work with women and girls in London, including those from Black and ethnic minority communities, to reduce VAWG and rebuild trust and confidence in the police.
  • The Committee believes that the final Turnaround Plan must take account of Baroness Casey’s findings and clearly set out where action will be taken to address these findings.
