The London Assembly Police and Crime Committee has responded to the Mayor's draft Police and Crime Plan 2025-29, which outlines the Mayor's policing priorities for his Mayoral term.

Trust and confidence in the police have been at record lows in recent years, whilst the Met Commissioner has made clear the severe financial pressures that the Met is facing. This means that more than ever, this Plan must be clear about how it will deliver, and its reporting and monitoring must be transparent.

The Committee's report highlights that the new Plan must deliver the benefits that the previous Plan did not. Areas that have not seen enough progress include the total volume of recorded crime increasing year-on-year since 2021-22, including increases in gun crime, robbery and theft. Additionally, since 2021-22, overall confidence in the Met has decreased and victim satisfaction levels have fallen. To deliver improvements in these areas, a bolder and more innovative approach is needed.
