Our Transport Committee has written to the Mayor to welcome the good progress made overall on preparing the transport network to cope with the 2012 Games, and highlight a few areas that are still a concern. The Mayor has now responded - see his letter of 21 June 2012 at the bottom of this page.
The Committee wants the Mayor to set out details of what is being done to improve the performance of the Jubilee line – a key Games route - before the Olympics. The Jubilee is the only Underground line to see an increase in delays caused by infrastructure failures during the latest published performance period.
The Committee is also concerned about whether there will be adequate time for testing when extra trains are introduced on the Jubilee line later this month.
The letter also flags up the potential for the Olympic Route Network (ORN) to confuse motorists, and to worsen traffic congestion and air pollution. It wants the ‘Games Lanes’ that form part of the ORN to be used as flexibly as possible to help keep traffic moving.
Other issues covered in the letter include: local traffic and parking management and enforcement; the timing of freight deliveries; encouraging walking and cycling; and potential difficulties for Londoners with reduced mobility.
