
Questions for the Met on policing large scale events
- The annual Notting Hill Carnival took place on the bank holiday weekend of 24 August 2024.1 In total, there were 334 arrests during the event. Of these arrests, 49 were for possession of an offensive weapon, 37 for assault on an emergency worker, and eight for sexual offences. In total, there were eight stabbings and two fatalities at the Carnival.2
- Following a knife attack at a dance class in Merseyside in July,3 large scale disorder took place across the country, with a number of protests in the capital.
In its regular Q&A session, the Police and Crime Committee will tomorrow question the Deputy Mayor for Policing and the Met Police on how the Met manages public order policing at large scale events and incidents.
The Committee will also discuss the London Policing Board, a year on from it being established by the Mayor following a recommendation from The Baroness Casey Review, as well as the recent HMICFRS PEEL report on the Met.
