The Metropolitan Police is facing a fresh crisis after an officer admitted dozens of rape and sexual offences against 12 women.
In October 2021, PC David Carrick was arrested on suspicion of rape. At the time of his arrest, he was a serving Met officer.
Carrick, nicknamed “B*****d Dave” by colleagues, came to the attention of the Met and three other police forces nine times before he was arrested.
Commissioner Sir Mark Rowley admitted “horrific” failures by the force as he issued an apology to Carrick’s victims and to “all of the women across London who feel we’ve let them down”.
The London Assembly Police and Crime Committee will meet tomorrow to discuss the Carrick case and other issues facing the Met with the Commissioner. The guests are:
- Sir Mark Rowley QPM, Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police
- Diana Luchford CB, Chief Executive Officer, Mayor’s Office for Policing and Crime (MOPAC)
- Kenny Bowie, Director of Strategy and MPS Oversight, MOPAC
- Lib Peck, Director, Violence Reduction Unit
Other topics in the session include:
- Trust and confidence
- Reducing crime
- Anti-corruption
- HMICFRS – Engage
- Reducing homicides
The meeting will take place on Wednesday, 25 January 2023 from 10am, in The Chamber at City Hall, Kamal Chunchie Way, E16 1ZE.
Media and members of the public are invited to attend.
The meeting can also be viewed LIVE or later via webcast or YouTube.
