The London Assembly Police and Crime Committee will meet tomorrow to explore the findings of the Baroness Casey review with the report author, Metropolitan Police Commissioner and Deputy Mayor for Policing and Crime.
Baroness Casey’s damning review into culture and standards in the Metropolitan Police Service accused it of being institutionally racist, misogynist and homophobic [1].
The report warns that the service has failed to protect the public from officers who abuse women, organisational changes have put women and children at greater risk, and female officers and staff routinely experience sexism.
It also finds that the Mayor’s Office for Policing and Crime has been "tactical rather than strategic” in its oversight of the service.
The Metropolitan Police said it welcomes the 363-page report and has called for it to be a catalyst for police reform.
The year-long review was commissioned in February 2022 following the kidnap, rape and murder of Sarah Everard by a serving officer.
The guests are:
Panel one
- The Baroness Casey of Blackstock DBE CB, Independent Reviewer of the standards of behaviour and internal culture of the Metropolitan Police Service
- Sarah Kincaid, Lead Reviewer, Baroness Casey Review
Part two
- Sir Mark Rowley QPM, Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police
- Sophie Linden, Deputy Mayor for Policing and Crime
The meeting will take place on Wednesday 22 March 2023 from 10am, in The Chamber at City Hall, Kamal Chunchie Way, E16 1ZE.
Media and members of the public are invited to attend.
The meeting can also be viewed LIVE or later via webcast or YouTube.
