The current threat to the UK from terrorism is ‘Substantial’, meaning that an attack is likely to happen.
Terrorism remains a significant concern for Londoners and is a priority for the Mayor. Although London bears the highest risk to terrorism in the UK, this is not ‘adequately recognised’ in national allocation of resources [1].
Earlier this year, Lord Toby Harris made 294 recommendations after he was commissioned by the Mayor to undertake a ‘new wide-ranging review’ of London’s preparedness for a terrorist attack.
What is the changing nature of terror in London? Is the capital prepared for potential future terrorist attacks? And what work is being done to safeguard people from radicalisation?
The London Assembly Police and Crime Committee will meet tomorrow for the first of two meetings on counter-terrorism and radicalisation in London. The guests are:
Part 1 – preparedness
- Lord Toby Harris of Haringey
Part 2 – counter-terrorism and radicalisation
- Charlotte Dixon-Sutcliffe MBE, Chairwoman, Survivors Against Terror
- Brendan Cox, Co-founder, Survivors Against Terror
- Dr Shiraz Maher, Director, International Centre for the Study of Radicalisation, King’s College London
- Robin Simcox, Commissioner for the Commission for Countering Extremism
The meeting will take place on Wednesday, 30 November 2022 from 10am, in The Chamber at City Hall, Kamal Chunchie Way, E16 1ZE.
Media and members of the public are invited to attend.
The meeting can also be viewed LIVE or later via webcast or YouTube.
