Preventing another Grenfell tragedy

The Grenfell Tower Inquiry Phase 2 report found ‘systematic dishonesty’ contributed to the deaths of 72 people on 14 June 2017.

Seven years on, justice has been slow and those affected by this terrible tragedy must be at the forefront of our thoughts.

60 per cent of the 3,280 high and medium rise buildings with unsafe cladding across England, are in London.

Tomorrow, the London Assembly Fire Committee will ask the Deputy Mayors responsible for housing and the fire service, along with senior representatives from the London Fire Brigade (LFB), how they will respond to the Inquiry’s findings and recommendations.

Assembly Members will question attendees on how long it will take to address the findings, how the Mayor and Government will work together on the issues raised by the report and ask whether there are any remaining issues not addressed by either phase of the Grenfell Tower Inquiry.

The guests are:

Panel 1: 10am-10.30am

  • David Shek - Executive Council Member, London, Fire Brigades Union
  • Ben Selby, Assistant General Secretary, Fire Brigades Union

Panel 2: 10.40am-1pm

  • Andy Roe KFSM– London Fire Commissioner
  • Charlie Pugsley – Deputy Commissioner / Director of Prevention, Protection and Operational Policy, LFB
  • Jonathan Smith – Deputy Commissioner and Operational Director for Preparedness and Response, LFB
  • Jules Pipe CBE Deputy Mayor for Planning, Regeneration and the Fire Service
  • Tom Copley – Deputy Mayor for Housing and Residential Development

The meeting will take place on Tuesday 10 September from 10am, in the Chamber at City Hall, Kamal Chunchie Way, E16 1ZE.

Media and members of the public are invited to attend.

The meeting can also be viewed LIVE or later via webcast or YouTube.
