Met response to attacks on Jewish community

London has recently experienced a rise in antisemitic incidents and targeted attacks, including against Jewish individuals, synagogues and charities, with the Met recording 140 antisemitic hate crimes in April, compared to 98 in March and 67 in February.1

In March, four ambulances belonging to Jewish emergency medical service charity Hatzola were destroyed in an arson attack in Golders Green.

Since this incident, there have been further attacks, including attempted arson attacks at Finchley Reform Synagogue, at the former premises of the charity Jewish Futures, at a memorial wall in Golders Green,as well as the incident on 29 April where two men were stabbed in Golders Green.

Tomorrow, the London Assembly Police and Crime Committee will question the Met on the operational response to the terror attacks, and what actions will be taken forward to keep London’s Jewish community safe.

The Committee will also question the Met on its handling of early Epstein-related allegations and investigations, and what lessons have been learned since.

Guests include:

  • Kaya Comer-Schwartz, Deputy Mayor for Policing and Crime
  • Matt Jukes QPM, Deputy Commissioner, Met Police

The meeting will take place in the Chamber at City Hall on Wednesday 20 May 2026 at 10am.

Media and members of the public are invited to attend.

The meeting can also be viewed LIVE or later via webcast or YouTube.
