Fire & rescue services in London – the risks
What is the greatest risk facing fire safety in London today and what actions are being taken to mitigate it?
London Fire Brigade (LFB) is the largest fire and rescue service in the UK and among the largest in the world. It deals with a range of serious incidents, including fires in residential and non-residential buildings, wildfires, terrorist incidents, flooding, road traffic collisions and other incidents where Londoners are in need of rescue.
The London Fire Commissioner (LFC) is a functional body of the Greater London Authority. The LFC runs the London Fire Brigade, serving as both London’s fire and rescue authority and its chief fire officer.
At an All-Assembly meeting tomorrow, Members will ask questions about challenges, transformation, risks, funding and more. The guests are:
- Jules Pipe CBE, Deputy Mayor for Planning, Regeneration and the Fire Service
- Jonathan Smith, London Fire Commissioner
Following the Q&A, Assembly Members will debate these motions.
The meeting will take place on Thursday 5 February 2026 from 10am in the Chamber at City Hall, Kamal Chunchie Way, E16 1ZE.
Media and members of the public are invited to attend.
The meeting can also be viewed LIVE or later via webcast or YouTube.
