Deputy Mayor to face affordable housing scrutiny
In May, the Mayor of London and the Government agreed to reduce the number of starts expected under the Affordable Homes Programme (AHP) 2021-26 to between 17,800 and 19,000 – down from a target of 23,900-27,200 set in 2023.
Up to June 2025, only 5,500 affordable homes had been started under the AHP 2021-26 - just 29 percent of homes against the lower target.
With London in urgent need of more affordable housing, tomorrow the London Assembly Housing Committee will ask the Deputy Mayor for Housing how the Greater London Authority (GLA) plans to meet its target for the 2021-26 AHP during its final year, and what the GLA’s plans are for the upcoming 2026-36 programme.
The guests are:
- Tom Copley, Deputy Mayor for Housing and Residential Development
- Tim Steer, Executive Director, Housing and Land, GLA
- Tajmina Jetha, Head of Programme Management, Housing and Land, GLA
- Heather Juman, Head of Area South, Housing and Land, GLA
The meeting will take place on Tuesday 9 September at 10am in the Chamber at City Hall, Kamal Chunchie Way, E16 1ZE.
Media and members of the public are invited to attend.
The meeting can also be viewed LIVE or later via webcast or YouTube.
