- The London Fire Brigade (LFB) said it had taken “immediate action” after an independent review of its culture led by Nazir Afzal OBE, requested by the London Fire Commissioner, found the service to be “institutionally misogynist and racist” [1].
- Following the publication of the review, His Majesty's Inspectorate of Constabulary and Fire & Rescue Services announced that it had put LFB into the ‘Engage’ phase – an enhanced level of monitoring.
- The Brigade has now implemented 26 of the 29 recommendations made in Phase 1 of the Grenfell Tower Inquiry, with targets set for the three remaining, which require procurement.
- On performance, the Brigade is exceeding its sickness targets for all staff groups, with the average working day lost to sickness above target levels for all staff.
Tomorrow, at an all-Assembly meeting, London Assembly Members will ask for an update on the challenges and priorities facing the Brigade. The guests are:
- Andy Roe, London Fire Commissioner
- Baroness Twycross, Deputy Mayor for Fire and Resilience
Following the discussion, London Assembly Members will debate these motions.
The meeting will take place on Thursday 9 February 2023 from 10am in the Chamber at City Hall, Kamal Chunchie Way, E16 1ZE.
Media and members of the public are invited to attend.
The meeting can also be viewed LIVE or later via webcast or YouTube.
