Assembly wants the Commissioner's High Commendation for Golders Green officers
The London Assembly is calling on Sir Mark Rowley to award the Commissioner's High Commendation to all the officers who responded to a terror incident in Golders Green in April, which saw two Jewish Londoners attacked.
Following the incident, claims were made online regarding the handling of the police response.
The London Assembly has today requested the Met establish a formal briefing protocol for all Assembly Members following high-profile incidents.
Alex Wilson AM, who proposed the motion, said:
“This is a vindication for the brave officers who put their lives on the line to apprehend the alleged Golders Green knife attacker. It’s outrageous that they faced such a vile backlash, including from those in positions of power and great influence. To those officers - thank you.
"I sincerely hope that Sir Mark Rowley will do as we ask and award the Commissioner's High Commendation to all the officers who apprehended the alleged attacker”.
The full text of the motion is:
“This Assembly notes that the Metropolitan Police officers who responded to the Golders Green Knife attack on 29 April 2026 acted with the utmost courage and professionalism. This Assembly also notes the unjustified online attacks targeted at those brave officers, which were fuelled by ideology and ignorance; this Assembly condemns those attacks.
This Assembly notes that unverified, harmful claims have been publicly made regarding the Metropolitan Police officers who apprehended the alleged terrorist in Golders Green on 29 April 2026, and calls on London’s politicians to lead by example by not circulating such claims.
This Assembly believes that its Members have a moral duty to not undermine trust in London’s brave police officers when they carry out their jobs correctly, and that undue, ill-informed criticism of them leads to increased community tension and, in some cases, violence.
This Assembly resolves to:
- Request that the Metropolitan Police Service establish a formal briefing protocol for all Assembly Members following any high-profile operational incident.
- Write to the Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police, Sir Mark Rowley, to ask him to award the Commissioner's High Commendation to all the officers who apprehended the alleged attacker.”
