In response to the announcement from Transport for London (TfL) that proposals to cut 22 bus routes have been reduced to four, Siân Berry AM, Chair of the London Assembly Transport Committee said:
“We are delighted that TfL has listened to the Assembly’s objections to these cuts, particularly because we provided evidence from the many groups of Londoners who rely most on bus services, including young people, older people, families and disabled people. It was proposed that 22 bus routes would no longer run – but now we are facing just four routes being cut back.
“One of our biggest concerns was the impact on disabled Londoners and the extent to which a diverse range of transport users and user groups had been engaged during TfL consultations. It is clear that change in itself can be a barrier to using public transport for some disabled people if they have built up their confidence around using a particular journey.
“We appreciate TfL’s u-turn today but still want to ensure that disruption to bus passengers can be kept to an absolute minimum given the importance of this particular form of public transport to Londoners, on a daily basis.”
