Following yesterday’s meeting of the London Assembly Police and Crime Committee with the Metropolitan Police and Mayor’s Office for Policing and Crime, Susan Hall AM, Chairman of the Committee, said:
“The London Assembly is a forum for open and challenging discussion about issues our city is facing and we appreciate Sir Mark Rowley’s honesty in addressing the Police and Crime Committee yesterday.
“It is clear that there are failings in the Metropolitan Police – failings that are letting down Londoners and the thousands of dedicated officers in the service who will be horrified by the recent reports. We are particularly shocked to hear that two to three police officers will be appearing in court every week for criminal offences.
"We trust that Sir Mark recognises the challenges ahead and is the right person to lead the service through this difficult period. The Mayor must play his part in ensuring the Metropolitan Police is able to overcome these issues and regain public confidence.
“We will continue to raise issues of misconduct and culture with the Commissioner and the Mayor in our regular scrutiny meetings.”
