Assembly responds to Grenfell Tower Inquiry report
In response to the publication of the Grenfell Tower Inquiry Phase 2 report, Hina Bokhari AM, Chair of the London Assembly Fire Committee, said:
“The final Grenfell Tower Inquiry report is a reminder for all of us of the terrible events in 2017, which resulted in the loss of 72 lives.
“Yet seven years on, the victims’ loved ones are still waiting for justice. They must be at the top of our minds as we discover the next steps in this tragedy.
“It’s a sobering fact that 60 per cent of the 3,280 high and medium rise buildings with unsafe cladding across England, are in London.
“We will carefully study the report’s findings and recommendations in the coming days including the assertions that successive governments “ignored, delayed or disregarded” concerns about the safety of industry practices, that manufacturers of cladding and insulation products “deliberately concealed” the fire risks they posed and that the way building safety is managed is “seriously defective”.
“The Fire Committee will meet on 10 September to ask invited guests what lessons the London Fire Brigade, the Mayor of London and the Government have learned and how they can ensure that we never again see another tragedy like Grenfell.”
