Are Londoners getting the accessible transport services they need?

Network Rail’s Access for All programme is intended to provide rail passengers with an “obstacle free, accessible route to and between platforms”, but it “significantly underperformed” in the five-year period to April 2024.1

Access for All improvements at several London stations that were planned for delivery by March 2024 are still to be carried out – with planned work at Battersea Park, Peckham Rye and Queen’s Park stations yet to start.

Tomorrow, the London Assembly Transport Committee will ask guests about the issues the Access for All programme has faced and the impact is has had on the transport users it aims to help, as part of its investigation into accessibility and inclusion in transport planning.

In the second half of the meeting, Assembly Members will question representatives from Transport for London (TfL) about the Dial-a-Ride service, TfL’s door-to-door service for disabled people.

The guests are:

Panel 1: 10am – 11.30am

  • Kayleigh Spires, National Programme Director Access for All, Network Rail
  • Alison Smith, Head of Accessibility and Inclusion, Great British Railways Transition Team

Panel 2: 11.45am – 1pm

  • James Mead, General Manager for On Demand Transport, TfL
  • Imogen Wescott, Head of Assisted Transport, TfL

The meeting will take place on Wednesday 13 November from 10am, in the Chamber at City Hall, Kamal Chunchie Way, E16 1ZE.

Media and members of the public are invited to attend.

The meeting can also be viewed LIVE or later via webcast or YouTube.
