The Metropolitan Police has been placed under ‘special measures’ by Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary Fire & Rescue Services (HMICFRS) following a string of scandals involving the force.
In October, HMICFRS published its 2021-22 inspection findings. It said the force requires improvement in several vital areas such as investigating crime and developing a positive workplace.
The core remit of the Mayor’s Office for Policing and Crime (MOPAC) is to “secure the maintenance of the Metropolitan Police force” and ensure the force is “efficient and effective”.
Since its inception in 2012, MOPAC has seen its responsibilities expanded significantly. Its budget has more than trebled from £31.3 million in 2013-14 to £104.5 million in 2022-23.
The London Assembly Police and Crime Committee will meet tomorrow to assess:
- How effectively MOPAC is exercising its functions
- Whether MOPAC provides effective oversight of the Met and effectively holds the Commissioner to account
- Whether MOPAC operates with an appropriate level of transparency
The guests are:
- Diana Luchford CB, Chief Executive Officer, MOPAC
- Kenny Bowie, Director of Strategy and MPS, Oversight, MOPAC
- Will Balakrishnan, Director of Commissioning and Partnerships, MOPAC
- Kim Chudley, Head of HR and Organisational Development, MOPAC
The meeting will take place on Wednesday, 2 November 2022 from 10am, in The Chamber at City Hall, Kamal Chunchie Way, E16 1ZE.
Media and members of the public are invited to attend.
The meeting can also be viewed LIVE or later via webcast or YouTube.
