TfL invests in step-free access in Barnet and Camden
Burnt Oak, Finchley Road and West Hampstead have been named on Transport for London’s (TfL) priority list to be converted to step-free access. If funding could be secured through local councils and developers, the first station could be converted by 2026. Design work has previously been undertaken on Burnt Oak station, but was paused due to the pandemic.
Labour London Assembly Member for Barnet and Camden Anne Clarke said:
‘I am very pleased that three stations in Barnet and Camden have been prioritised for step-free access. It is enormously important to ensure the tube network is accessible as possible for everyone. So much work was done at Burnt Oak previously, and it was a terrible pity that the work there was paused thanks to the pandemic, and the Government’s unwillingness to give London a fair funding settlement.
The upgrade at West Hampstead is very welcome, given the importance of this interchange between the Jubilee Line, London Overground and Thameslink services in close proximity. The tube station is the only one of the three without step-free access from street to platform.'
