Following this spring’s announcement from Thames Water indicating the firm would need to raise bills 40 per cent, Assembly Member Zack Polanski pushed the Mayor to oppose such an extreme bill hike for Londoners given the ongoing state of London’s waterways. [1]
Unsatisfied with the Mayor’s dithering, Polanski made the case for nationalisation as the only realistic path forward if the Mayor was still committed to his target of making rivers swimmable within the next 10 years. [2]
Following the exchange, Green Party London Assembly Member Zack Polanski said:
“While the Mayor continues to use Londoners as a cash machine, our rivers are still steeped in sewage.
“The idea that he could support a 40 per cent bill hike after decades of mismanagement and public failure is a disgrace.
“Londoners know this is a broken model. Every available penny from now on should go towards correcting the path these companies have led us down – not to paying shareholders.”
