London Assembly Member, Zack Polanski, has tabled a motion [1], calling on the Mayor of London to intervene in a campaign to save one of London's finest art house cinemas, the Curzon Mayfair.
The future of the iconic Grade II listed Curzon Mayfair is under threat, after the cinema’s landlord refused to grant a new lease.
The Green Party Assembly Member said: “The historic cinema, which first opened in 1934, has provided Londoners with decades of creative enrichment through a programme of film and events, alongside numerous premieres, as well as outreach to the local community.”
“It is an incredible shame that the flagship cinema, is now in jeopardy after the landlord has refused to renew the lease agreement.
A petition to save the cinema from closure has received over 20,000 signatures. [2]
Zack Polanski AM added: “I, along with over 20,000 other people, who have signed a petition to save Curzon Mayfair, recognise the value the cinema provides to London’s cultural offering and economy.
“I am concerned about the adverse impact the closure of the Curzon Mayfair would have on London’s cultural sector and the economy, this is why I have tabled a motion to the London Assembly calling on the Mayor to intervene in the campaign to save one of London's finest art house cinemas.”
