The Framework
Equal Life Chances for All has been developed to address the remaining and significant pockets of deprivation and inequality, and provides a fresh analysis and different solutions to inclusion, community cohesion and tackling disadvantage. It aims to achieve equal life chances for all and proposes an approach that brings Londoners together, rather than dividing them. It sets out the Mayor’s equality vision and the framework necessary to deliver it.The framework promotes equality outcomes - being able to deliver real changes to the quality of life for all Londoners.
The new framework focuses on equality outcomes where ordinary Londoners will experience real change. The Mayor wants the Framework to deliver concrete, sustainable improvements for the city, and reduce the impact of the economic downturn on the most vulnerable and disadvantaged people. It addresses deprivation and inequality, and provides a fresh analysis and different solutions to community cohesion, inclusion and tackling disadvantage.
Equalities Framework Evaluation
In November 2008 the Mayor launched a consultation process to inform the development of his new Equality Framework – Equal Life Chances for All. It aims to achieve equal life chances for all and proposes an approach that brings Londoners together, rather than dividing them.
The consultation in winter 2008/09 included web-based feedback, roundtable discussions, focus groups and meetings with stakeholders and the London Assembly at City Hall to stimulate debate and generated a large number of responses, with the majority welcoming this new approach.
The evaluation document outlines the findings from the consultation. There were 72 responses in total representing a wide range of stakeholders from London boroughs, public, private, voluntary and community sectors.
The State of Equality in London
The second State of Equality in London Report highlights the progress made against the high-level indicators identified in the first report, and provides important insights into patterns and trends of inequality and discrimination across London as a whole.
It provides important insights into patterns and trends of inequality and discrimination across London as a whole, and can help policy makers make more informed judgements about developing appropriate policies to deal with them. We have used this evidence to develop the Mayor of London’s Equal Life Chances for All equality framework. It has helped us to identify the priority outcomes and measure the progress we want to see for London and Londoners. It has also helped us to identify what is being measured that can tell us whether we are seeing the progress that we are seeking.
