The Mayor is currently sponsoring an advertising campaign on the back of a number of buses across the capital, and possibly elsewhere, stating that 90 per cent of cars seen driving in the outer London ULEZ area are ULEZ compliant.
- How is this assertion reached?
- What data was used and processed to support this claim?
- Provide details of any and all discrete data sets processed, including those obtained from any other public authority or commercial supplier (including details of those sources for each), and any data processing that was conducted on behalf of yourselves by any third party.
- Was a sample processed and modelled, or otherwise extrapolated, or was an entire population of data processed and used?
- Provide any Data Protection Impact Assessments relating to this data processing.
- What was the legal basis for conducting any data processing?
Our response
This information is publicly available.
Transport for London (TfL) estimates that 9 in 10 cars seen driving in outer London on an
average day meet the ULEZ standards. This figure includes all vehicles seen driving in the zone, regardless of where they are registered.
The Mayor and TfL are acutely aware of how valuable individual privacy is. TfL has a range of robust policies, processes and technical measures in place to control and safeguard access to and use of personal data associated with the camera systems used for charging schemes in London.
TfL has followed the required Data Protection Impact Assessment (DPIA) process and has a published DPIA on its website which sets out how it minimises data collection from ANPR
cameras to only what data is needed, how it will be used and how TfL keeps it secure.
