Join OPDC to help shape the future of Old Oak West

8 March 2023

The Mayor of London’s development corporation for Old Oak and Park Royal (OPDC) invites everyone in the local community to a series of exciting of public engagement activities to help shape the future of Old Oak West.

In June 2022, OPDC adopted its Local Plan, setting out a vision for the area for the next 20 years. Central to this vision will be a welcoming and inclusive district called Old Oak West, an area stretching from Willesden Junction Station and North Acton with thousands of new and affordable homes, jobs, and local facilities, focused around the huge new High Speed 2 interchange, Old Oak Common station.

To ensure that the local community has the opportunity to have a say in the future of the area, OPDC will be holding a series of ‘Place Lab’ co-design workshops throughout March. These workshops will provide an opportunity for OPDC to listen to the local communities’ views and to explore how we can jointly create a new urban district that truly reflects local needs and aspirations.

Feedback from the events will be used to shape detailed planning guidance that will be used to further develop the vision for the area. It will be published in an ideas book, that reflects the community’s aspirations for the area, shaping the neighbourhood, workspace, shops, facilities and green space.

Everyone in the community is invited to take part in the following events:

  • Place Lab one, Reimagining Old Oak West: Saturday 18 March, 10am-1pm  Woodward Buildings, Victoria Road, North Acton, London W3 6FA

With HS2’s Old Oak Common Station coming to the local area, Old Oak will see growth and new opportunities. How can Old Oak West reflect the local identity? What are the priorities for a new district in London and what should a town centre look like?

  • Place Lab two, Greening Old Oak West: Thursday 23 March, 6:30-8:30pm    The Lab Community Centre, Oaklands Rise, 19 Green St, London NW10 6FT

From new parks to canal towpaths, Old Oak is full of potential to bring nature closer to our everyday lives and to encourage a more active and healthier lifestyle. How can we achieve this by enhancing existing open spaces and through creating new ones?

  • Place Lab three, Futureproofing Old Oak West: Saturday 25 March, 10am-1pm
The Collective Old Oak, Nash House, Old Oak Lane, London NW10 6FF

Old Oak West is more than just building new homes and creating jobs. What does the local area need to ensure existing and new communities can thrive together? What types of workspace and community facilities will the local area need?

To register to attend any of the workshops and to find out more, please sign up via Eventbrite.

We want to create a welcoming and inclusive district around the Old Oak Common Station that brings as many benefits as possible, both for those that live and work here now, and those who will come in the future. The local community is at the centre of our plans for the future of Old Oak West and through this series of co-design workshops, we want to work closely with them – taking on board their views and aspirations for the area and working together to create a vision for Old Oak West.
David Lunts, CEO, OPDC
