Green light for North Acton business improvement district that will unlock millions of pounds of investment

North Acton is set for a major boost after local businesses and property owners voted to establish a new business improvement district (BID).

The BID ballot, delivered by Ealing Council and the Old Oak and Park Royal Development Corporation (OPDC), gives the green light for more than £2 million of investment over the next five years. This funding will back business‑driven priorities and help accelerate North Acton’s transformation.

BIDs are business-led and business-funded initiatives, designed to deliver improvements in a defined commercial area. Local businesses collaborate to fund projects that matter to them and make the area better for trading and better for customers and visitors.

North Acton’s BID is the first to be created in the Old Oak and Park Royal Opportunity Area - and joins a successful network of established BIDs within the London Borough of Ealing, including Make It Ealing BID, Your Acton BID and In West Ealing BID.

North Acton, one of Ealing's seven towns, is part of OPDC's Old Oak project, one of the capital’s largest brownfield regeneration schemes. Old Oak will create a mixed-use urban district bringing 8,000 new and affordable homes, thousands of jobs, up to 200,000 square metres of commercial space, local facilities and green and open spaces across a 70-acre area next to the new HS2 Station at Old Oak Common.

To prepare for the BID, key local stakeholders including Ealing Council, OPDC, Imperial College London, West London Business and a consortium of local developers including City & Docklands and ADD Properties, worked with businesses across North Acton to identify their key priorities for investment. A ballot was held in February 2026 and following a ‘yes’ vote, the BID will launch on 1 June 2026 for an initial five-year term.

Priorities include improving the public realm to create a better environment for all those who live, work in and visit North Acton. This includes lighting and wayfinding improvements and reducing littering and fly-tipping. In addition, the BID will champion North Acton's identity by supporting events and local markets, local creatives and artists, and provide a collective voice for businesses responding to major changes taking place in the area through projects like HS2.

As well as the council and OPDC, founding BID members include:

North Acton is undergoing extraordinary change, and the successful ballot arrives at exactly the right moment.

It shows the strength of support from businesses that want a cleaner, safer, more dynamic place to work and invest. The BID reflects our ambition to see North Acton thrive as a place for business, creativity, and community. We are looking forward to seeing the area becoming a leading destination where innovation, culture, and community come together.
Councillor Peter Mason, Leader, Ealing Council
North Acton is a vital piece of the jigsaw in the transformation of Old Oak and business-led investment through the BID will ensure it thrives as a place. The creation of the BID is a great example of partnership between OPDC as the Mayoral Development Corporation, Ealing Council and local businesses and stakeholders to achieve tangible improvements for the local area.
Matthew Carpen, Chief Executive, OPDC
The successful ballot is a clear vote of confidence from North Acton’s business community. Local employers have given us a strong mandate to drive forward the improvements they want to see — a safer environment, a cleaner public realm, a stronger identity and a more coordinated approach to growth. This is a business led partnership, shaped by the priorities of those who invest, work and create value here every day.

We look forward to working collaboratively with Ealing Council and OPDC, but above all, we are focused on delivering for the businesses who have entrusted us with this responsibility. Our focus now is on turning this strong vote of confidence into real, visible change for the companies and people who call North Acton home.
Niall Watters, Chairperson, North Acton BID and Managing Director, ADD UK
The creation of the BID is a great step forward for the North Acton community. It supports our collective ambition for the area not just to be a great place to live, but also an exceptional location to start, scale and invest in a business. Imperial is bringing a new cohort of pioneering tech, science and manufacturing businesses to North Acton, and through the BID we will be unlocking more opportunities for these companies to come together and collaborate with the wider business and local community.
Alice Sewell, Vice-Chairperson, North Acton BID and Investment Director, Imperial College London
