Shaping London’s economic future: What you told us
Updated: 23 October 2024
Almost 1,300 of you had your say on London’s economic future. City Hall’s Economic Development team have analysed your survey responses and discussion comments.
On behalf of the London Growth Plan co-ordinating team, I would like to say a huge thank you to the Londoners who took time to complete the Talk London survey…It was important to us as we wanted to hear Londoners voices directly.
Who took part?
live in Inner London boroughs
live in Outer Londoner boroughs

What you told us:
While 70% of you feel that London is a good place to work in, only 23% feel that London’s economy is fair. You told us that to make the city fairer we need to prioritise:
- Affordable and decent housing
- Good work
- Opportunities for young people
- Better and accessible skills and career support
- Accessible public transport
- Investment in public spaces
- Safe streets
- Preventing racism and hate crimes
The Talk London Survey has been extremely helpful in ensuring that the priorities of Londoners can be made visible… What is concerning is that only 51% are optimistic about London’s future and only 45% feel London is a good place to start a business.
How City Hall used your contributions:
Your feedback on Talk London, alongside the views of stakeholders and other Londoners, were discussed in a meeting on 30 September 2024 with the Deputy Mayor of London for Business and Growth, Howard Dawber.
Talk London survey results:
feel London is a good place to work
feel London is a good place to live
are optimistic about London’s future
feel London is a good place to start a business
However, only:
feel London’s economy is fair
feel London’s employers understand workers’ needs
City Hall in partnership with London Councils is working with stakeholders, including employers of all sizes and industries, to help carry out the London Growth Plan.
The London Growth Plan is due to be published in January 2025. We’ll keep you updated on the Plan.
What can you do next?
To keep updated with the progress of the London Growth Plan, attend our online meeting on Wednesday 4 December 2024. The Deputy Mayor of Business and Growth, Howard Dawber, and Mayor of Croydon, Jason Perry, will be discussing next steps for the London Growth Plan.
