It’s been 100 years since the end of the First World War. To mark this centenary and pay tribute to all those killed in conflict, we have renamed City Hall’s Viewing Gallery on the first floor. The Mayor, Sadiq Khan, and Tony Arbour, London Assembly chair, will officially open the ‘London Remembrance Gallery’ on 9 November 2018.
Until February, you can come and see a temporary art installation, 'Poppy Cloud'. It features 48,000 poppies draped above the viewing gallery to remember those who lost their lives.
The new gallery will also feature two permanent plaques – one an excerpt of the poem “For the Fallen” by Laurence Bunion.
With Museum of London’s support, we’re also hosting an exhibition featuring stories of people affected by war across London on the second floor. The exhibition includes a screen wall showing short films, showcasing tales of the war effort at home, war abroad, and social welfare.
You can visit this exhibition during City Hall’s opening hours. However, it will be closed when meetings take place in the Chamber.
