Creative success story: Mark's story
On this page you can find out how the Mayor's Skill Academies Hubs have helped people to find rewarding new careers in the creative industries.
Mark's story
Hub: JGA Creative
Mark decided to undertake the training because he found himself stuck in his career. He was working in customer service and would have preferred to be working in the media industry.
However, Mark's lack of connections made it difficult to get into the industry and he found it hard finding opportunities on his own.
How the Hub helped
The Mayor’s Skills Academies Hub worked with media youth charity MAMA Youth Project to create Skills Bootcamps for Digital Broadcast Assistants, and to apply for, and achieve, funding through a subcontract with The JGA Group.

Mark says:
"I received on-the-job training and I had the opportunity to take on responsibilities that you would usually have in a more senior role. I was also provided with insight into the media industry, tips on what to do when I land an entry-level position, and help with my CV and job interview techniques.
The training helped me gain new-found confidence, and I acquired skills that will be key in progressing further in my career.
I also walked out of the training with a family and support that I’ve been lacking. I continue to stay in contact with the project after completing the training I can go to them for anything, and they will find a way to help me.
The major difference is that I’m no longer working full-time in customer service, I now have an entry-level placement within a production company and I’m creating lifelong connections and building on skills that I can carry throughout the rest of my career in the media industry."
