This meeting took place on 11 June 2015. Read the transcript here.
The Government’s controversial Prevent strategy aims to stop people from becoming terrorists or supporting terrorism.
The London Assembly Police and Crime Committee will tomorrow continue its investigation into how Prevent is delivered across London and how it might change in the future.
It will also follow up on questions which arose from the Committee’s first session:
Does Prevent need to be more transparent to improve community perceptions of it?
How does Prevent address the problem of online radicalisation?
Prevent projects are only funded by the Home Office for a year at a time; can any tangible difference be made in such a short time?
Does Prevent sufficiently deal with the wider causes of extremism?
What are the benefits of the Mayor’s Office for Policing and Crime (MOPAC) being involved in the commissioning of Prevent projects in the future?
The Committee will hear from the following guests:
Lord Carlile of Berriew QC CBE, former independent reviewer of terrorism legislation
Rebecca Lawrence, Director of Strategy, MOPAC
The meeting takes place tomorrow, Thursday 11 June from 10am in Committee Room 5, City Hall (The Queen’s Walk, London SE1).
Media and members of the public are invited to attend.
The meeting can also be viewed via webcast.
