Following England’s victory in the semi-finals of the UEFA Women’s EUROS, the Mayor of London Sadiq Khan has announced that up to 7,000 football fans will be able to watch a screening of the tournament’s historic final at Trafalgar Square on Sunday (July 31).
England have given some incredible performances over the past few weeks and City Hall will be giving Londoners the opportunity to cheer on the Lionesses at Trafalgar Square this Sunday (July 31), as they hopefully go all the way.
The match, which kicks off at 5pm, will be the first time that England women have competed in a EUROs final since 2009. Following last night’s packed screening of the semi-final against Sweden, the capacity at Trafalgar Square has been expanded to 7,000 supporters who will be able to watch the match for free on a first-come-first-served basis. The site will open to the public at 11am.
The screening will be standing only, so attendees may wish to bring a picnic blanket to sit on (no camping chairs allowed). Accessible viewing space with chairs and space for wheelchairs will be available.
People considering attending the screening are asked to register their interest by visiting www.london.gov.uk/womenseuro2022 by 5pm on Friday 29 July. Registration does not guarantee entry but will ensure people receive updates about the event and help the Mayor’s Office to plan for the screening.
Fans can also see two impressive EURO 22 Murals in Trafalgar square created with Murwall. The first features Chelsea’s Fran Kirby, and Arsenal’s Leah Williamson and Beth Mead; the other features famous London Landmarks and will be finished live on site. A third mural in Euston Square shows Mead and Williamson with Chelsea’s Millie Bright.
The Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, said: “Getting to final is a remarkable achievement and I truly believe the Lionesses have what it takes to go all the way.
“The atmosphere at tonight’s Fan Party screening was electric and England is now within touching distance of the trophy. I’m so excited to once again bring Londoners and visitors together at Trafalgar Square this Sunday to help cheer the Lionesses to victory.”
Since July 23 Trafalgar Square has been transformed into an official UEFA ‘Fan Party’, offering a packed programme of activity, free for all to enjoy. This includes a pop-up football pitch featuring exhibition games, interactive football-themed activities and food and drink stalls offering a wide variety of cuisines. The ‘Fan Party’ is free to enter and open until July 31, between 11am and 6pm.
An FA Disability Football Day on Thursday 28 July will promote accessibility with partially sighted, blind, amputee and powerchair groups playing on the Fan Party’s pop-up football pitch. Visitors will be able to take part in free coaching sessions.
