This meeting took place on 4 June 2014. Read the transcript here.
Young people in London are at a greater risk of sexually transmitted infections than the rest of the UK. Across the capital the rates of gonorrhoea, syphilis and genital herpes diagnoses have increased since 2011.
More than three million Londoners are affected by sexual ill health each year, resulting in serious long-term impacts on physical and mental health, as well as placing a significant financial burden on London’s health budget.
The London Assembly Health Committee will tomorrow discuss access to sexual health services across the capital and the challenges London boroughs face in efforts to improve care provision and health outcomes. The following guests will attend:
- Dr Paul Crook, Consultant Epidemiologist, Field Epidemiology Services, Public Health England;
- Peter Taylor, Lead Commissioner, Sexual & Reproductive Health, Royal Borough of Kingston and NHS Kingston Clinical Commissioning Group;
- Dr Anatole Menon-Johansson, Clinical Lead for Sexual Health, Guy's & St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust;
- Harriet Gill, Area Director, Brook, London and South East;
- Daisy Ellis, Acting Director of Policy, Terence Higgins Trust; and
- Denis Onyango, Lambeth Healthwatch
The meeting will take place on Wednesday, 4 June from 2.00pm in The Chamber at City Hall (The Queen’s Walk, London SE1). Media and members of the public are invited to attend. The meeting can also be viewed via webcast.
