How would EU nationals coming into London in the future be able to access a regional visa, under proposed schemes?
The City of London Corporation and the London Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) have both recently published reports in favour of the introduction of regional visas, and in the case of the LCCI, a specific visa for London.
The Mayor has welcomed the proposals.[1]
The London Assembly EU Exit Working Group will hold its first public meeting tomorrow to examine why London might need a regional visa, how it might work in practice and to highlight the opportunities and risks of having a localised immigration policy. The guests are:
- Julia Onslow-Cole, Head of Global Migration, PwC
- Colin Stanbridge, CEO, London Chamber of Commerce and Industry
- Professor Tony Travers, London School of Economics
- Alp Mehmet, Vice Chairman, Migration Watch
- Vaughan Jones, Head of Policy & Research, Migration Matters Trust
The meeting will take place on Thursday, 15 December from 2:30pm in Committee Room 5 at City Hall (The Queen’s Walk, London SE1).
Media and members of the public are invited to attend.
The meeting can also be viewed via webcast.
