Will housing strategies work post-COVID?

City Hall
Created on
08 February 2021

COVID-19 put major delays on delivering new homes in London when all construction was forced to stop. Since then, it has been reported that up to 700,000 Londoners have left the city in the past year.

The Mayor’s strategy has prioritised building homes for Londoners; delivering affordable homes; high quality homes and inclusive neighbourhoods; a fairer deal for private renters and leaseholders; and tackling homelessness and helping rough sleepers. Have the Mayor’s housing policies delivered on their targets, and what needs to be done to address the impact of the pandemic on housing in the capital?

The Housing Committee is discussing whether any lessons have been learned from COVID-19 and how these could be taken forward tomorrow. The guests are:

  • Tom Copley, Deputy Mayor for Housing and Residential Development
  • Rickardo Hyatt, Executive Director, Housing & Land, GLA

The meeting will take place on Tuesday, 9 February 2021 from 10am. In line with Government advice, this meeting will take place virtually.

Media and members of the public can watch the meeting live here.
