What should be top of the Mayor’s economic list?

  • Should we be concerned about London’s dependency on the financial services sector, despite growth in other economic sectors?
  • What are the key challenges facing London’s economy since the 2008 financial crisis?
  • How can the Mayor ensure London’s labour market is accessible to all?

During the first meeting of the new London Assembly Economy Committee, a range of experts will discuss key economic challenges and priorities for the new Mayor.

Topics to be discussed will include: creating an accessible, inclusive and fair labour market, low pay and in-work poverty, flexible working including temporary and zero-hour contracts, skills shortages, the cost and supply of workspace and supporting the SME sector.

The following guests will be questioned:

  • Lord Adebowale CBE, Chair, London Fairness Commission
  • Richard Brown, Research Director, Centre for London
  • Laurie Heselden, Campaigns & Policy Officer, Southern and Eastern Region, Trades Union Congress
  • Clare Ludlow, Director of Innovation, Timewise Foundation
  • Colin Stanbridge, Chief Executive, London Chamber of Commerce and Industry
  • Matthew Waite, Senior Economist, Greater London Authority (GLA)

The meeting will take place on Tuesday, 21 June from 10:00am in Committee Room 5 at City Hall (The Queen’s Walk, London SE1). Media and members of the public are invited to attend.
