Now that London has entered into Tier 2 of COVID-19 governmental restrictions, the comfort of Londoners’ homes, and their experiences in public spaces like parks, are critically important.
Learning lessons from our housing survey from the first COVID-19 wave, the London Assembly found a significant proportion of Londoners wanted to move home.
The survey indicated that homes with a decent amount of living and working space are needed and showed that gardens and parks are a major priority for people when they are considering where they live. Should families be housed in tower blocks or would they prefer to live in street-based developments?
The Planning and Regeneration Committee will discuss this tomorrow and examine whether the Mayor’s new (Intend to Publish) London Plan and the draft Good Quality Homes for All Londoners London Plan Guidance will support an appropriate mix of housing to meet the housing needs of Londoners.
The guests are:
- Professor Yolande Barnes, Chair of the Bartlett Real Estate Institute, University College London (UCL)
- Professor Philip Steadman, UCL Energy Institute
- Matthew Carmona, Professor of Planning and Urban Design at The Bartlett School of Planning, UCL
- Jo McCafferty, Director, Levitt Bernstein
- Michael Ritchie, Place Shaping Team Leader, London Borough of Tower Hamlets
The meeting will take place on Wednesday, 21 October at 10:00am.
This meeting will take place in a hybrid format, with some Members participating virtually and some participating in person, in accordance with Government advice and requirements on social distancing.
