This meeting took place on 4 February 2016. Read the transcript for the first section here and the second section here.
This winter has seen record rainfall and heavy flooding across the UK.
The Environment Committee will tomorrow examine what measures are currently in place to ensure that the capital does not suffer the same fate as other parts of England.
The Committee will check progress following the recommendations made in its report, ‘Come Rain or Shine’, which found London ill-prepared for the risks of flooding, drought and other impacts of climate change. It will also follow up on other past work, on London’s green spaces and wildlife.
The first section of the meeting will focus on flood risk and climate adaptation. The guests are:
- Kevin Reid, Principal Policy & Programme Officer, Greater London Authority
- Simon Moody, London Area Manager, Environment Agency
- Cantor Mocke, London Flood Risk Manager, Environment Agency
- Kristen Guida, Manager, London Climate Change Partnership
During the second section of the meeting biodiversity and green infrastructure will be discussed and the Committee will hear from the following guests:
- Peter Massini, Principal Policy & Programme Officer, GLA
- Jon Best, Chair, London Boroughs Biodiversity Forum (and Ecology Officer, Southwark Council)
- Mathew Frith, Director of Conservation, London Wildlife Trust.
The meeting will take place on Thursday 4 February from 10.00am in the Chamber at City Hall (The Queen’s Walk, London SE1).
Media and members of the public are invited to attend.
