Unmesh Desai AM calls on the Mayor to include route 25 buses in his latest plans to reduce harmful emissions

Local London Assembly Member Unmesh Desai has asked the Mayor Sadiq Khan to include the route 25 bus, running from Ilford to Oxford Circus via Newham and Tower Hamlets, in his latest plans to upgrade the most polluting buses on the network as a matter of priority.

This morning (28 June 2017) the Mayor announced that the most polluting buses in London are to be upgraded to meet the ultra-low Euro VI emissions standard, with an aim to reduce their harmful emissions by 95 per cent.

The route 25 is one of the capital’s busiest bus routes, carrying almost 20,000,000 passengers in 2015-16 – more than any other route in the city. The route serves Romford Road, Stratford station, Bow Road and the Whitechapel area before passing into the City of London to finish at Oxford Circus.

Mr Desai has written to the Mayor on behalf of his constituents to ask that the buses serving the route 25 be included in these plans, to help improve air quality in East London.

Local London Assembly Member Unmesh Desai AM said:

“For too long my constituents in East London have been living with dangerous levels of air pollution from our busy streets.

“This is why I fully support the Mayor’s latest plans to reduce harmful emissions across London by cleaning up our buses.

“I have written to the Mayor today to highlight my concerns about the pollution levels from the route 25 as it passes through my constituency and I have asked that he look into including the buses serving this route in this upgrade.”
