The Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, has today welcomed Local London Assembly Member Unmesh Desai’s report ‘Policing London: A Vision for a Safer City’.
Mr Desai’s report contains a series of pledges which outline how the Assembly Member for City and East will be campaigning to address crime in his constituency.
These include calling for a campaign to work with families and faith groups in order to tackle violent crime, staying tough on hate crime and stamping out modern day slavery. There is also a call for the Met to record gender-based hate crime.
Local London Assembly Member, Unmesh Desai AM, said:
“I want to be clear to local residents that I am taking seriously the need to robustly tackle the forms of crime which are blighting our streets.
“These range from highly visible offences, such as moped crime, to hidden crimes that take place behind closed doors, such as the abomination of modern day slavery and domestic abuse.
“I hope my campaign stimulates debate over how we can work together to make London a safer city for everyone.”
Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, said:
‘This charter is a practical and positive contribution to contemporary debates about policing in London and I welcome it.’
