London Local Assembly Member, Unmesh Desai AM, along with Stephen Timms MP, hosted a meeting last night with residents from across East London to discuss local solutions to serious crime.
The meeting provided local people with the opportunity to feed in their thoughts ahead of Stephen Timms MP providing evidence to the Offensive Weapons Bill Committee in Parliament, and for Unmesh Desai AM to consider as he moves forward in his work at City Hall.
There was also debate around what can be done to tackle serious crime across City & East London.
The meeting, which took place at the Trinity Centre in East Ham also saw Mr Desai launch his publication Policing London: A Vision for a Safer City which includes pledges outlining the different areas of work he will be focussing on locally including tackling violent crime, hate crime and violence against women and girls.
Local Assembly Member Unmesh Desai, said:
“East London is made up of strong, diverse and harmonious communities. It is, however, essential that we listen to residents’ views and work cooperatively if we are to address concerns around increasing incidents of serious and violent crime.
“The community meeting provided the opportunity to do just that, with residents providing insights on their experiences of crime in the local community, and what they would like to see being done to address it.”
