Responding to the Prime Minister’s comments yesterday about the humanitarian situation in Burma, Unmesh Desai AM, said:
“I welcome the Prime Minister’s comments last night at the Lord Mayor’s Banquet about the role the UK should play in ending the humanitarian crisis in Burma. This violence against the Rohingya people needs to end as soon as possible, and those who have been displaced from their homes and villages need to be allowed to return.
“I hope that the government here in the UK will continue to do whatever possible to bring an end to this crisis and I am pleased that the Prime Minister used last night’s dinner as an opportunity to condemn this attempt at ethnic cleansing, something many of us have been calling on the government to do for some time now.”
